The crew arrived home last night after a short but interesting assignment on the Lateral West fire where they spent much of their time working the Bull North fire (a 45 acre fire just south of the main fire in North Carolina).

August 26th, 2011After working for 2 days on the Bull North fire which was just south of Lateral North fire in North Carolina, the crew along with almost all other resources have been released. The crew is returning to Maryland Friday evening.

August 23rd, 2011Crew has arrived and will be staying at the Cheasapeake Comfort Inn and Suites tonight.
MDS#2 mobilizing for Lateral West Fire in Virginia

MDS#1 Update Friday June 24
June 24th, 2011Crew is sceduled to fly out of Albuquerque NM this morning at 0945 mountain time to Harrisburg PA. No word yet on whether they will be held overnight in Harrisburg or be home this evening. Either way… Welcome Home Everyone!
MDS#1 Update June 22
June 22nd, 2011Today will be the crew’s last day on the fire line. Tomorrow they will meet up with the other crews from the module at the ICP and start the demobilization process. They are expected to fly back to Harrisburg via NIFC jet Friday.
MDS#1 Update June 20th
June 20th, 2011Crew spent the day yesterday holding a burn out and today they spent part of the day putting in hot line. They are still at the Strayhorse spike camp (not the Point of Pine spike came as reported in today’s IARR). Their last day on the line will be Weds, June 22nd and they should be traveling Thurs and perhaps Friday. Everyone is doing very well and continues to be in good health.

June 18th, 2011After relocating to Horseshoe Lake Staging in Zone 3 this morning, the crew is relocating this evening back to Zone 2 and will be staying on the southern end of the fire at the Strayhorse spike camp.

June 17th, 2011Crew moved today to Luna New Mexico and is in staging.
MD#1 Update 2 June 15th
June 15th, 2011The crew finished their work of the last few days on the contingency lines they were improving and spent the day staged while the Incident Team is reevaluated tactics today. They are considering possibly taking a more direct approach than before based on changing conditions. The crew should be reassigned after the new plan is in place.
Crew is doing well and coming together nicely. No foot or medical problems either. Their base camp
is large but well run. Equipment & supply requests are delivered within 24 hrs which is always a welcome occurance.
MDS#1 Update June 15th
June 15th, 2011Crew is in staging today and reports that all are healthy and in good spirits. As of 1500 eastern, they didn’t know how long they were going to be staged. Red Flag warnings are expected to return to the area starting tomorrow.

June 12th, 2011Word from the crew this evening is that everyone is in good spirits and doing well. They spent the day working in heavy down and dead Ponderosa Pine improving contingency line with a crew from Colorado. They are still working east of the fire on the New Mexico side. Day time RH has dropped as low as 6%, and night time recoveries are only making it up to 11%… it is very very dry.

June 11th, 2011Assigned to the Wallow fire. MDS#1 is assigned to Zone 2 East. Weather is hot and dry. Winds increasing this afternoon. Relative humidity in the single digits. Red flag warning for today. Fire is burning in Ponderosa Pine. Smoke is an issue. Crews are not near the hot line. MDS#1 is brushing out along with one of the Pennsylvania crews in Branch 1, Division 2L.
