Below is an assortment of photos submitted by Maryland Wildland Fire Crew members on MDS#1 from the Whiskeytown Complex near Redding California in the Whiskeytown National Recreational Area. The complex consisted mainly of 4 fires started by lightning June 21st 2008. This lightning was part of one of the largest lightning busts in many years to occur in Northern California (comprised of 7000 strikes igniting over 2000 fires). The 4 fires burned several thousand acres before being contained. Several MDS#1 crew memebers wouldn't rest long after returning to Maryland from Whiskeytown as they returned to California as part of MDS#2 and MDS#3 which passed right through the Whiskeytown National Recreational Area on their way to the Iron Complex not long after returning home.
