Below is an assortment of photos submitted by Maryland Wildland Fire Crew members (MDS#1 & MDS#2) from the Lost fire. The Lost fire broke out in mid June 2001 8 miles northwest of Buena Vista Virginia in George Washington & Jefferson National Forest and was named due to the difficulty in locating the actual fire. Fueled by gypsy moth and southern pine beetle kill, the fire burned for several days before being contained on June 24th after 710 acres were burned.
