Below is an assortment of photos submitted by Maryland Wildland Fire Crew members (MDS#2 and MDS#3) from the Iron Complex (later combined with the Alps complex). The Iron Alps Complex of fires was started by lightning June 21st 2008, part of the largest lightning busts in many years to occur in Northern California (comprised of 7000 strikes igniting over 2000 fires). The complex was centered around Junction City California in the Shasta Trinity National Forest and Trinity Alps Wilderness Area and was contained September 10th 2008 at 105,855 acres. Before being contained the complex of fires claimed the lives of ten firefighters and one helicopter crewperson in two separate incidents.
