4/26/17 Website: After 16 years the webmaster has decided to retire from the crew and move on. At some point in the future the website will be retired and the twitter account transitioned to someone new if a new keeper of the twitter account can be identified. It has been a great ride with lots of wonderful experiences and more importantly great friends and memories made along the way. Remember... lunch is just one more chain of line to be cut away and keep one foot in the black!
2/5/17 Crew Sweatshirts: Still some left from the limited run of black crew hoodie sweatshirts done last spring. These are only printed up every few years. Some tshirts still available from the last run of shirts a few years ago as well. Email the webmaster if interested to confirm cost and availability.
1/21/2017 Wildland Firefighter Training Announcement: The Maryland State Department of Natural Resources offering S-212 Wildland Fire Chainsaws this winter. Training will be held February 27th through March 2nd.. Registration deadline is February 17th and seating is limited. Click here for the official training announcement (Adobe PDF document).
1/13/2017 Important Notice for all AD Fire Crew members: There are significant changes with the AD hiring process this year for all AD crew members. It includes an application form that has a January 31st due date. Please see the attached email and documents from Monte (click here to download zip file... some users might have to save file after downloading before opening). Please contact Monte, the State Fire Supervisor or either of the Regional Fire Managers with any questions. At this time submitting the inital application to the National Forest Service per the instrucions in the zip file by 1/31/2017 is the most important step.

8/20/2016 Fire Activity: NIFC (the National Interagency Fire Center) raised its preparedness level from 3 to 4 yesterday due to increasing fire activity in multiple regions.. To learn more about Preparedness levels Click here.
8/3/2016 Crew Mobilization: MDS#1 and MDS#2 are being mobilized tomorrow morning. To keep track of the crew follow us on Twitter (no account required).
7/25/2016 Fire Activity: NIFC (the National Interagency Fire Center) raised its preparedness level from 2 to 3 this afternoon due to increasing fire activity in multiple regions.. To learn more about Preparedness levels Click here.
7/11/2016 NIFC Advisories: Recent fire activity has prompted fuels/fire behavior advisories to be posted by NIFC for many parts of Nevada, Oregon, and Idaho. Click here for the link to the pdf (this is a must read for crew members planning on going out West this year).
6/19/2016 Crew members: Don't forget to contact the State Fire Supervisor and both Regional Fire Managers via email about your availability to participate on the crew this summer. Without your information, they don't know who is available and when, preventing them from listing crews as available. Eastern area has already started sending Eastern area crews out west (first crews mobilized today to the SouthWest region). Don't let all that training go idle, list yourself as available today!
4/25/2016 Eastern Area GACC Advisory: Recent fire activity has prompted a fuels/fire behavior advisory to be posted by the Eastern Area NIFC GACC this week. Click here for the link to the advisory PDF. A similar advisory was posted last week by the Southern Area GACC and covers parts of Virginia bordering Maryland. Remember LCES everyone!
4/22/2016 Crew Sweatshirts: A limited run of black crew hoodie sweatshirts is being printed up for the first time in several years. They should be available for delivery at the Western Region pack test or shipped if you have already pack tested. Email the webmaster if interested to confirm cost and availability.
4/21/2016 Twitter Account: The marylandwildfire.com website now has a Twitter account. it is @MDwildfire. It will primarily be used to update crew status when crews are mobilized. However, I'm sure we will use it for some News Announcments as well. https://twitter.com/MDwildfire . You don't need a Twitter account to view, but users of Twitter can feel free to reply, retweet, follow, ect.
3/11/2016 Discounts Available: As a wildland firefigther, crew members qualify to join the Promotive website for discounts on all sorts of products. Just join the Fire and Rescue team.
